Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure that aims to recreate a breast mound after a woman has had all or part of her breast(s) removed due to cancer or other medical conditions. The reconstruction can be done immediately following a mastectomy (surgical removal of the breast) or after the initial healing has occurred.

Breast reconstruction can be performed using several different techniques, including implants (silicone or saline), autologous tissue (from the patient's own body), or a combination of both. The choice of technique depends on various factors such as the patient's body type, medical history, and personal preferences.

The goal of breast reconstruction is to create a breast that looks as natural as possible, to restore the patient's self-esteem and sense of wholeness after breast cancer treatment. It is important to note that breast reconstruction is not necessary for all women who have had a mastectomy, and the decision to undergo the procedure is a personal one that should be made after careful consideration of the benefits and risks involved
